‘Kuram’ means ‘Keep Me Safe’ in Tiv, one of the 350+ languages found in Nigeria. ‘Kuram’ is at the heart of this project, supported by Hivos through Digital Defenders Partnerships, to expand on our work eliminating violence against women and girls wherever and however this violence presents, including online.

The State of Emergency GBV Movement is an 11-member coalition igniting citizens to advocate for an urgent, comprehensive, and sustainable response to sexual and gender-based violence that skyrocketed in Nigeria during the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19. It was convened in 2020 following the rape, injury and death of Uwaila Vera Omozua and, to date, has engaged the National and State Houses of Assembly, the Nigerian Governors Forum, citizens in refugee camps, civil society, and duty bearers within government.
