About Her:

Miss Elizabeth Olorunleke, born in October, 1988 is one of the youngest tech female entrepreneurs in Nigeria to expand economic opportunities for girls and women through ICT. Miss Olorunleke hails from a town in the South Western region of Nigeria called Ado-Ekiti.

She is a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where she bagged a degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2012. She moved on to Cisco Academy in 2012 to broaden her horizon in Information Technology.

Elizbeth Olorunleke was recently certified by Google as a Google Digital Business Manager. She was nominated as a delegate at the Nigerian Centennial celebration in UK. She is also a Youth Ambassador for UN youth Peace Federation.

Her Work:

Elizbeth Olorunleke has over 5 years experience in Digital. In January 2011, she worked as a Design Manager at Cradle Newspaper. She was in charge of graphics impression, print and web maintenance for a period of 10 months.

Elizabeth also worked as the Assistant Brand and Communications Director at GLEEHD Foundation for Leadership and International Development in 2014 for 10 months. In July, Elizabeth was an IT associate for Trends and Intelligence Network (TINK AFRICA).

In September, 2014, she founded FundBox Africa; an online search engine for financing and sustaining SME’s and startups in Africa.

Miss Olorunleke is the brain behind Tech4her Africa; an organization working towards improving the livelihood of girls and women in Africa using ICT. Tech4her Africa also aims at getting girls and women in Africa to actively leverage on digital technologies to improve themselves. She founded the Non-governmental organization in January 2015.

She was recently shortlisted to represent Nigeria Entrepreneurship and Innovation on the global stage at the Challenge Cup in Washington DC hosted by Generation Enterprise.

Elizabeth Olorunleke founded Inspirasoft; a brand design and digital communication firms that offers all forms of online marketing and graphic designs.

About Her:

Teresa Mbagaya is a young enterprising woman from Zimbabwe and an activist born in Kenya, Nairobi. The 28 year-old holds a Bachelors degree from Yale University. She attended London School of Economics and Politics Sciences. She also has a certificate in Advanced Arabic from SIT Graduate Institute in Washington DC.

She is a member of Management Leadership for Tomorrow, Africa Leadership Network, Yale Black Alumni Association and an Advisory Board member for Muzinda Umuzi Hub (Zimbabwe’s first entrepreneurship and innovation Hub).

Miss Teresa Mbagaya is passionate and driven about education technology and has received notable awards and scholarships for being zestful in the cause she cares about.

Her Work:

In 2006, Teresa Mbagaya Co-founded Bidii Children Foundation. Bidii is a non-profit dedicated to promoting education in rural area of Bungoma; a district in Western Kenya.  

She started pursuing her career in technology at Google Inc. in the United State of America in 2010. She worked in various capacities at Google. She was the account manager for education. It was her responsibility to provide market solutions to global education clients, manage annual revenues of $80-100M, and design short and long term strategies for such entities.

After being selected as the one of the youngest to participate in the Google Reach Leadership Program, she worked as an Outreach and Business Consultant in New-Delhi India over a period of 2 months. She led outreach projects including: consulting projects with non-profit, developing marketing and social strategies for educational institutions and capacity building training for various civil society organizations.

She also worked as Project Manager and Product Marketer at Google Inc. where she organized the first of its kind. She organised technology education conference for thousands of students and educators across the globe. The aim was to bring more users to products like Google+ and Hangout on Air.

In May 2013, she was appointed team lead for the development of Econet Education in Zimbabwe. She was the youngest of all the executives in the organisation. Econect Education is a sub-section of Econet Wireless Group which aims to research, develop, deploy and launch overlay services through mobile-based application to impact on students.

She also launched an education platform called EcoSchool that provides on-the-go and reliable access to educational materials through an EcoSchool tablet.

Under her supervision at the organization, they launched a platform called EcoSchool Academy which offers interactive mobile courses covering over 50 topics.

She also spearheaded a Group initiative called Econet Zero to 5M Econet Broadband for subscribers enabling zero-rated access to 50+ education website including Codecademy, EdX, Coursera amongst others.

Presently, Teresa is the Education lead for Microsoft for East and South Africa.

Mrs. Oreoluwa Somolu Lesi is married to Mr Olugboyega Lesi. She fell in love with tech after attending a computer school while waiting for admission into the university. She then decided to give go for it.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Essex University, United Kingdom and a Masters in Analysis, Designs and Management Information System from London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mrs. Lesi worked as Technology Associate in 2003 at Suicide Prevention Centre in Newton, Massachusetts, USA. She coordinated and provided direction for the centre’s technology and online media-related activities.

In 2005, she joined Lonadek Oil and Gas Consultants as a Training Coordinator and later became the Project Manager for a project called Vision 2020 Youth Empowerment and Restoration Initiative. As a project manager, she managed to create awareness and encourage Nigerian students towards Science and technology career.

For over 5 years, she has been a member of Association for Progressive Communication whose goal is to empower and support organisation, social movement and individuals in and through the use of Information and Communication Technologies to build strategic communities and initiatives. In 2008, Mrs. Lesi founded W.TEC for the purpose of encouraging Nigerian girls and women to use technology to empower themselves socially and economically. Every year, the non- governmental organisation runs a two weeks technology education and mentoring residential program for the girl child. She also designed a program for women to develop technology skills that are relevant to their career as well as using online tools to for learning, self-development and professional development called W.TEC’s ICT Empowerment Programme for Young Women.

Isioma Idemudia is a Nigerian info tech expert with over 10 years of technology management experience. She is also an innovation specialist whose passion and ideas have significantly birthed and helped start-ups and tech related entrepreneurial activities.

Rasheeda Mandeeya Yehuza is a 25 year old Ghanaian software engineer currently working at VOTO Mobile. VOTO mobile is a company that provides an avenue for the voice of the under-heard and under-represented to be amplified via a mobile phone notification and survey platform.

She was exposed to computers at the tender age of 8 while growing up in Ghana. She followed up on her passion to become an expert in the field of computing and leverage on technology in providing innovative solutions to tech related problems.

Rasheeda Yehuza graduated with a B.Sc in Computer Science from the Kwame Nkurumah University of Science and Technology in 2013. She’s currently an Mphil student of computer science also at the Kwame Nkurumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

Her Work:

Rasheeda is an innovative woman and has contributed greatly to the emerging tech sphere of Ghana.

In October 2011, she created Snapso Shutdown Manager; a windows program that allows you to set the time you would want your computer to shut down, restart, hibernate or log off.

In November of the same year, she created the SnapSo web browser. The browser does pretty much what every other browser can do.

Rasheeda Yehuza, alongside, Tagoe Ronald, Samuel Nana Twum Quansah, Alloysius Attah, Francis Addai, Robert Okine, Christopher Amanor, Godfred Aboagye, Anthony Acquah and Pierre Brunache Jr created a windows 8 and windows phone app for mFriday – A mobile and web laboratory in Ghana.

Between January 2012 – May 2012, she built Buju Hunt Game; a role-playing 3D game for her computer science mini project while in her 3rd year in the University.

From September 2012 – April 2013, she created SmartTxT; her final year computer science project. SmartTxt helps to improve information dissemination among students and lecturers, professors, lecturers and administration on campus.

Between October 2012 – 2014, she co- founded Click Trade Ghana with Christopher AmanorShe. This is an online platform which connect buyers and sellers in Ghana. She also managed the product’s development, direction, team and business strategy.

In June 2013, she Co-founded Tech Needs Girls Ghana. Tech Needs Girls is an annual interactive one-day workshop for girls in Senior Secondary Schools in Ghana. The essence of this workshop is to teach girls how to develop mobile and web applications and also interact with software that helps them understand STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education).

In August 2013, she founded Nasara Tech Ltd. She worked as Technology Lead at the Kumasi based firm in Ghana. Her achievements and job roles include setting up the strategy and vision for the tech firm, crafting viable strategies in marketing and sales of Nasara Tech’s products. She also maintained the company’s websites and products and helped to manage the technical especially on website development.

In May 2015, she worked with Wendel Laryea to create the Nasara Election System; a web-based election system that electronically simulates electrical voting processes.

Since May 2013 – present, she has been working as a software engineer at VOTO Mobile in Ghana. She is responsible for designing web-front end components, managing frequent VOTO’s bi-weekly sprint testing and release process and programme web applications to run the VOTO system. She also develops computer interfaces to run the GSM mobile telephone system. She was among the team at VOTO that invented a technology which provides interactive voice content surveys in local dialect.

Linda Chinwetelu is a young Nigerian currently ruling the world of technology. She started from her little corner and is expanding rapidly! She works currently as a software developer at Hotels.ng; an online travel agency founded by Mark Essien that specialises in hotel bookings within Nigeria.

She has a passion for self-development which was fueled by her parents. This has helped to set her on the path to becoming the 'geek' she is today.

She started working at Hotels.ng in October 2014 as a Software Developer. Her role and achievements here include managing data migration between servers, debugging of legacy codes, building new features, managing outsourced developers and writing PHP code to implement app features. She also writes Structured Query Language (SQL) queries to interact with databases and Client and Server Side JavaScript for different applications depending on specifications. She also played an active role in the refactoring of the code base and a subsequent rewrite.

Linda Chinwetelu's work has been recognized both nationally and internationally;

In February 2014, she emerged as Second runner up in the British Council Culture Shift III Hackathon competition in Nigeria. During the competition, Linda Chinwetelu and her team built an interactive digital image bank to connect the creative industry with an audience.

She also developed a web image upload bank with functionalities which includes Upload, Search, Categorize and Social shares.

In October 2015, she received the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) Scholarship Award under the auspice of the Anita Borg Institute. She was also a volunteer blogger at the GHC.

Ofure Ukpebor is a 22-year-old computer programmer, freelancer and head of technology at Anakle Nigeria. Anakle Nigeria is a digital company that provides innovative solutions to clients.

She is originally from Edo State in Nigeria and graduated with a first class degree in Computer Science from Babcock University, Nigeria in 2012.

She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Computer Science at City University of New York, America and will conclude the programme in 2017.

About Her:

Barbara is an award-winning female technologist, a mother of two children and a graduate of Makerere University Business School. She has a Postgraduate degree in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management Institute. She is a web designer and a social entrepreneur who is focused on how to help women be better at whatever they're doing using technology.

Honors and Awards

Her Work:
She started her career as a Research Assistant at Makerere University at the age of 20. She did some research on how to better enable craftswomen get their products online.

Mrs. Birungi is also one of the organizers of the Apps4africa competition in Uganda hosted by Appfrica Labs. She became the Country Manager of Appfrica Labs in February 2009.

In July 2010, she co-founded Hive Co-lab in Kampala, Uganda. Hive Co-lab is a business incubator for start-ups in Uganda. The incubator was established to create a collaborative environment that promotes experimentation of scalable ideas with positive social and economic returns.

She took part in a Makerere university initiative to help rural craft-making women market their produce on the internet. She also aimed at improving their livelihood through counseling, encouragement and teaching practical financial saving skills.
She is also the Founder of Women in Technology, Uganda (WITU) which started in September 2012. WITU seeks to address the gender technological gap through recruitment, encouragement, training, empowerment and career advancement of women in the ICT sector. WITU has taught over 500 young girls and contributed to more than 100 women finding tech jobs.

Mrs. Barbara also creates a Hackathon programmes whereby women design several apps based on identified needs under the WITU umbrella. One of the projects birthed a notable app called Nakazade. The app is a maternal and infant health app that provides information for mothers and traditional birth attendants. Embedded in the app are information relating to pregnancy, health care, use of contraceptive also known as family planning, infant care and immunization schedules local to them.

She also has expertise in Business Development Advisory, Strategic Planning, Project Management and Implementation.

She has empowered women based on the lack of support group for women in the technology industry in Uganda. Mrs. Barbara has highly impacted the economy of Uganda and created solutions to some of its challenges in areas of unemployment, digital gender divide, health and technology.

In an interview with AFKInsider, Mrs Birungi outlined her vision succinctly. My hopes for Hive Colab and WITU are highly to impact Uganda’s youth to think differently and create their own solutions to many of Uganda’s challenges. These challenges include unemployment, poor governance, health and infrastructure among others. I want WITU to bring the digital gender divide down to 50/50 by 2023 by helping to raise a new generation of girls that think differently about technology than the current generation.

Ebele Okobi is a Nigerian Internet policy creator. She is currently the Head of Public Policy Facebook (Africa). She is also a trained lawyer who’s carved a niche for herself by pioneering workable ICT4D (Information and Communications Technology for Development) policies and paraphernalia in organizations she’s worked with. She has helped to promote human rights, increase women’s participation in entrepreneurial and technological activities in emerging economies.

She graduated with a B.A in Psychology from the University of Southern California in 1995. In 1998, she got a Juris Doctor, Law from the Columbia Law School, U.S.A. In 2007, she graduated with an MBA from HEC Paris (école des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris) in France.

In June 2015, Ebele Okobi in a debate at Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany discussed digital opportunities in Africa and the issue of privacy in Facebook. Esther Agbarakwe is a Social Media Consultant, Digital Storyteller and award winning environmental activist. She's from Imo State, and graduated with a B.Sc in Chemistry from the University of Calabar, Nigeria in 2008. Aside being a social media and communications expert, Esther Agbarakwe is also an advocate for many causes which include reproductive and maternal health care, climate change, poverty alleviation, societal development etc. She wears many hats and she does great with all of them!

She is Co-founder of Social Good Nigeria, working with Ize Adava and Kolo Kenneth Kadiri. Social Good Nigeria serves as an interface between innovation, technology and community development. Social good holds critical conversations on how technology shapes development leading to action that inspires, connects and empowers.

In 2008, she got a certificate in Digital Storytelling and Community Leadership from Earth Charter Global Learning Opportunity (e-GLO). e-GLO helps young leaders in developing countries, increasing their knowledge on things like multi-culturalism, sustainability, ethics and new media communication.

In 2012, she got a Diploma in Project Management from Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online. Between 2012 – 2013, she studied at The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Development.

Esther Agbarakwe started activism right from when she was 9 years old and is popularly known as ‘Estherclimate’ because of her interest and passion for the environment. She is proficient with using social media to communicate environmental issues. As an undergraduate at the University of Calabar, she volunteered as a youth counsellor and activist for the Nigerian Youth Aid Programme (NYAP).

Between September 2008 – June 2009, Esther Agbarakwe was the Program Coordinator of Society for Youth Development and Orphaned Children in Ilorin, Kwara State. She managed and coordinated the affairs of orphaned and vulnerable children.
From August 2008 – July 2009, she worked as HIV/AIDS (UNICEF Nigeria/Society for Family Health, SFH) Peer Education Trainer in Ilorin, Kwara State.
From May 2009 – May 2010, she was the Regional Coordinator for Africa at Youth and Children Major Group of United Nations Commission On Sustainable Development (MGCY). MGCY is the mouthpiece of young people in the UN sustainability negotiation efforts for the Commission on Sustainable Development. During her time there, Esther Agbarakwe alongside her team coordinated the development of policies, networked with young people from around the globe and also made recommendations towards the achievement of the group’s goals and objectives. This includes protecting the environment.
In June 2009, she founded the Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition.
In 2010, she briefly worked for 9 months as Project Manager at Building Nigeria’s Response to Climate Change (BNRCC) and Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition (NYCC); a Youth Engagement and Communications Project. She was also the Country Activator at Commission on Education and Communication (May 2010 – September 2012). The Commission on Education and Communication is a network of professional volunteers who are specialists in strategic communication, learning and knowledge management, towards the actualization of IUCN’s (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) goals.
Between April 2010 – August 2011, she worked as Programme Assistant at White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, Nigeria (WRAN). She helped in promoting youth participation in maternal and child health policy programs. She also assisted the National Coordinator in the design of policies for targeted groups.
From May 2011 – September 2011, she co-founded advised Youth Advocates for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Nigeria. This initiative was birthed as a result of the pioneer Youth e-consultation on MNCH (Maternal, Newborn and Child Health) which held in Nigeria on the 28th of April, 2011. The e-consultation program comprised of series of questions which was aimed at getting opinions from youths on their awareness, willingness to be involved in raising awareness and designing online strategies for targeting young people.
In the midst of all this, she also served as a Youth Facilitator (Organizer) and Report writer for the International Youth Climate Movement from September 2010 - March 2012.
Between September 2011 –August 2012, she was an International Advocacy Fellow at Population Action International (Population, Health, Environment and Climate Change) in Washington DC, USA. PAI is an organization that promotes the campaign for qualitative reproductive health services to be easily accessible by people across the world. She effectively coordinated and managed the climate change small grant project for screening of PAI’s award winning movie. She also helped in fusing reproductive health/family planning into national climate change declaration strategies in Nepal and Brazil. On international youth engagement, she was responsible for capacity building of youth delegates during several UN engagement summits that focuses on the cor-relational frameworks between climate change, reproductive health and human demography using social media and symposiums. Furthermore, she assisted in developing advocacy strategies for United Nations Organization’s Conference on Climate change (COP17) in Durban, South Africa and a Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) organized by the UN in June 2012, at Rio de jainero, Brazil.
Since May 2012 till date, Esther Agbarakwe has been a resource person at Actionaid Nigeria; a human rights organization whose aim is to end poverty in Nigeria. She was the Convener/Chair of the 2014 General Assembly.
In 2012, Social Good Nigeria at the International Girls in ICT Day event unveiled ‘The PopUp Incubator Project’, a project aimed at developing the capacities of techies, entrepreneurs, young professionals and to increase the involvement and participation of women in ICT sector.
She is currently the Communications Officer at Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Association for Reproductive and Family Health, Abuja. She has held the position since June 2013. Her roles include offline and online projection of ARFH and research writing and ensuring contents editorials meet required standard.
Esther Agbarakwe’s work speaks volumes and has been recognized by both national and international organizations.

In 2009, she received the Dekeyser & Friends Foundation Leadership Award, Germany.
In June 2010, she was among Women Deliver 100 Young Leaders.
In November 2010, she became a Commonwealth Youth Climate Fellow and was received the Nigerian Youth Leadership Award form LEAP Africa (supported by Ford Foundation).
In September 2012, she became an Atlas Corps/Population Action International Fellow.
In August 2012, she was nominated in The Future Awards (For Best Use of Advocacy, 2011/2012).
